PADI Bubblemaker®: A Child’s First Underwater Adventure

The PADI Bubblemaker® program gives children an exciting and carefully supervised introduction to scuba diving. Participants use scuba equipment to breathe underwater, swim in shallow water, and experience the fun of becoming a young diver.

The program is designed for children aged 8 years and above and takes place in a swimming pool or suitable confined-water environment at a maximum depth of 2 metres (6 feet). Every activity is conducted under the direct supervision of a qualified PADI Professional.

Bubblemaker is not a scuba certification course. It is an introductory experience that allows children to discover whether they enjoy scuba diving in a safe, positive, and age-appropriate environment.

Components of the PADI Bubblemaker Program

Introduction to Scuba Equipment

Children are introduced to basic scuba equipment and learn how a mask, regulator, buoyancy device, and scuba tank are used.

The equipment should be appropriately sized for young participants so they can enjoy a comfortable and secure experience.

Breathing Underwater

Participants experience breathing through a regulator while remaining in shallow, controlled water.

This helps children become familiar with the sensation of breathing underwater while staying close to their instructor.

Basic Underwater Skills

Under the direct supervision of a PADI Professional, participants may practice simple introductory skills such as:

• Breathing calmly through a regulator
• Moving comfortably underwater
• Using basic hand signals
• Clearing small amounts of water from the regulator or mask
• Maintaining awareness of the instructor and surroundings

Supervised Underwater Fun

The program combines learning with enjoyable underwater activities, helping children develop confidence while discovering the excitement of scuba diving.

Requirements for Joining PADI Bubblemaker

Minimum Age

Participants must be at least 8 years old. Local rules or operational requirements may impose additional restrictions.

Comfort in the Water

Children should be comfortable in the water. Previous scuba-diving experience is not required.

Parental or Guardian Approval

A parent or legal guardian must approve the child’s participation and complete the required registration and medical documentation.

Medical Suitability

Parents or guardians may be asked to complete a medical questionnaire. Medical clearance may be required when a participant has a relevant medical condition.

Program Safety and Limitations

Direct Professional Supervision

All activities are conducted under the direct supervision of a qualified PADI Professional.

Shallow-Water Environment

The experience takes place in a pool or confined-water environment shallower than 2 metres (6 feet).

Introductory Experience

Completing Bubblemaker does not qualify a participant to dive independently or continue scuba diving without professional supervision.
