The Emergency First Response® Primary and Secondary Care course teaches participants how to respond confidently during the critical moments between an emergency occurring and professional medical assistance arriving.
The course focuses on practical, easy-to-follow techniques for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, first aid, injury assessment, bandaging, and splinting. Training is delivered in person by a qualified EFR instructor through demonstrations, guided practice, and realistic emergency scenarios.
Completing this course also satisfies the first aid and CPR training requirement for the PADI Rescue Diver and PADI Divemaster certifications.
Components of the Emergency First Response Course
Primary Care – CPR and Life-Threatening Emergencies
Participants learn how to identify and respond to serious emergencies that may require immediate action, including:
- Assessing the safety of the emergency scene
- Checking the patient’s level of responsiveness
- Performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- Providing rescue breathing
- Managing serious bleeding
- Responding to shock
- Monitoring the patient until emergency medical services arrive
Secondary Care – First Aid
Participants learn how to assess and assist a person with a non-life-threatening injury or illness when professional medical care is unavailable or delayed.
Training includes:
- Patient assessment
- Injury and illness evaluation
- Wound care
- Bandaging techniques
- Splinting techniques
- Providing appropriate first aid while waiting for professional medical support
Practical Emergency Scenarios
The course includes hands-on practice that allows trainees to apply their knowledge in realistic situations. These exercises help participants improve their decision-making, communication, and confidence during an emergency.
Requirements for Enrolling in the Emergency First Response Course
No Previous Diving Certification Required
The course is open to divers and non-divers. Participants do not need to hold a scuba diving certification.
No Previous First Aid Experience Required
The program is suitable for beginners and provides step-by-step instruction under the supervision of a qualified EFR instructor.
Ability to Participate in Practical Training
Participants should be able to take part in practical CPR, bandaging, splinting, and emergency-response exercises.
